Wedding Bells

23 Years since I married Ron, and I couldn’t have been luckier than to get a partner like him. We have done so much over the years … and we are so proud of our family. Our crystal ball wasn’t really working when we walked down the aisle, but I can tell you that each event, surprise, choice, and decision together has just made us more committed to this life we are sharing together. I know that many of you have also been lucky to find somebody to share your dreams with. And so, today we want to hear how you met!

Here’s our story …
Back in 1982 I was working 3 jobs … my day job was as a pricer at TRW, on weekends I worked in a travel agency, and I worked nights at Jack-in-the-Box … yikes! Well, after realizing that I was working too much, I was ready to quit my night job. It was about 10:55 of my very last night, and I was going to go home at 11:00. I was so tired. And then, a guy comes through the drive-thru and orders onion rings. No big deal, except they take 8 minutes to cook! So, he came around and I gave him grief because he was making me stay later than I wanted. Well, I didn’t mind talking to him … he was driving a pretty nice car and had a suit on – and after some of the folks I’d seen drive through, that was a nice sight for sore eyes. After a couple of minutes, he asked me for my phone number. I wasn’t really comfortable giving out my number to strangers, but he seemed okay, so I gave him my TRW work number. Low and behold, he called the next day! But, he wanted to let me know that he was going away for a week on a vacation, and Christmas was right after that. So, we talked briefly, and that was that. Then, he called me 3 weeks later to see if I wanted to go out .. .I said yes. But, I almost cancelled because I couldn’t even remember what he looked like! Thank goodnes I decided to go … and here we are 26 years later!
So, while not funny, it’s lucky that he ordered Onion Rings. Today, we always smile when he orders them …
Let me hear how you met! Oh.. and I want to extend my congratulations to Kirsten and Jeff … they were both born on the day Ron and I got married, and they are getting married tomorrow!! What are the chances of that?

  1. I just found this blog and I know it’s late, but I had to comment. 27 June is my anniversary! 12 years of marriage, and 20 years of having a great best friend. Of course, it didn’t start out that way. I met my future husband during my senior year of college, the same day I got engaged to someone else! That night (after a fight with my new fiancee, which should have told me something) I was checking ID’s at the door of a party hosted by one of my school’s fraternities. Up walks a cadet in a freshman uniform who thought he owned the joint. He was annoyed that I asked for his ID and I was annoyed that he thought he could just waltz in. He allowed as how he was 26 years old, an Army veteran and would go where he wanted. I allowed as how he most certainly would not and he’d do well not to cross me. To this day he says he still takes that first warning to heart!! Needless to say, our second meeting was a lot more friendly. 20 years later and we have 4 kids and wonderful adventures under our belt. Our 4th child was born on our 10th anniversary in Kuwait City, Kuwait. Can’t wait to see what the next 40 or 50 years hold!
